In 2012 Galeao airport was ranked 2nd in terms of transported passengers, and 4th in terms of aircraft operations and cargo handled in Brazil, placing it amongst the busiest airports in the country.

The airport is located 17 km away from the centre of Rio de Janeiro.

There are four lines, offered by the Real Auto Bus, which make transport directly to the Airport.
