Athens has been inhabited for 7,000 years, but exists already 3,500 years. Athens 'golden age' was the ancient Greek classical period. Today, Athens is a lively and modern city, which hosts a number of cultural festivals - Festival of Athens (from mid-June to mid-September) includes modern and ancient theater, ballet and opera, classical and jazz concerts. The festival takes place in various locations, including Herod's Theater in Attica, which was built on the slopes of the Acropolis and the Lycabettus theater hill overlooking Athens.
