Heraklion is a city in Greece, it was founded in 824th by the Arabs, and used as a base for piracy to Byzantium. In 961st the Byzantines took Heraklio and almost completely destroyed it. 1204th Heraklion bought the Venetians and called Candia. 1669th The Candia came to the Ottoman Empire and was given the name of Kanji. 1898th The Ottoman forces withdrew from the town and gained independence. The 1908th it was independent of the composition of Crete, but in the 1913th became part of the Greek composition and was renamed in Heraklion.
